It may not replace black as rock ‘n’ roll’s preferred color, but green comes in a close second in everything from concert tees to
guitar picks. No matter what kind of music you’re into, check out some green gear that really does rock.
Guitar players including Metallica’s James Hetfield, Carlos Santana and Avril Lavigne don’t just trash their used strings: They
donate them to jewelry-design company Wear Your Music, to be transformed into the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll bracelets. The selection
ranges from simple (a single silver string) to ornate (add “charms,” like guitar picks, diamonds or emeralds), and a portion of the proceeds from each bracelet goes to the donating artist’s charity of choice. Wear Your Music
45 RPM Clocks
Even if you’ve given up vinyl for CDs and downloads, here’s a reason to add a record to your collection: Philadelphia-based Vinylux
recycles old 45 rpm singles – complete with original labels and plastic turntable adapters – into working wall clocks. You can
request rock or soul, or have them use one of your own 45s. Vinylux
Drumsticks and Guitar Picks
Whether you’re a serious musician or a serious Rock Band junkie, try playing with wheat. In an effort to save forests and animal
habitats, Wheatware makes guitar picks and drumsticks without wood, cardboard or plastic. Instead, it uses renewable, U.S.-grown
crops. The sticks and picks aren’t edible, but they are recyclable -- and designed to biodegrade in 45-90 days, too. Wheatware
Earth-Friendly Spirits
If you’re going to drink, do it responsibly: Missouri-based 360 Vodka uses locally grown grains to help limit fossil-fuel
consumption, and cuts down on carbon dioxide emissions by planting trees around the distillery. Plus, each 750 ml bottle is made
from 85% recycled glass, with labels from 100% recycled-paper labels; swing-top bottle closures come with attached pre-paid
envelopes so they can be returned for recycling. Eco-friendly imbibers say 360 tastes really good, too. 360 Vodka
Biodegradable Doggie-Doo Bags
Justin Timberlake calls these “dog’s best friend,” but if that’s not reason enough to use them, consider this: Dog poop is
biodegradable, but not the plastic baggies you put it in. Those are likely to end up in a landfill – or worse, the ocean. Olive’s
Super Poop Bags, made from cornstarch and veggie oil, are 100 percent biodegradable and can compost in as little as 40 days. They
even come in funky art canisters designed by illustrator Nate Williams. Olive's Green Dog
Compact Flourescent Light Bulbs
Still lighting your home with old-school incandescent bulbs? Think about making the switch to eco-friendly, recyclable CFL bulbs.
Earthmate CFLs use 75 percent less electricity and last up to 13 times longer than standard light bulbs, so you'll spend less on new
lightbulbs -- and have more cash for fun stuff, like CDs and concert tickets. Plus, CFLs generate about 2/3 less heat, so they're
safe to operate and help keep energy bills down. Think Green From
